Fußballclub Mauerwerk is an Austrian association football club based in the capital city of Vienna. Founded in 2014 as FC Karabakh Wien, the club adopted its current name in June 2018 following its acquisition by the Mauerwerk Group. As of the 2025–26 season, the club competes in the Regionalliga Ost, the third tier of Austrian football, and plays its home matches at the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion in Schwechat.
Fußballclub Karabakh Wien was founded on 2 August 2014 by members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Vienna. The club was officially registered with the Vienna Football Association (WFV) and obtained a license to begin competition in the Oberliga A Wien.
At the time of its founding, the Oberliga represented the third tier of the Vienna regional association and the sixth tier of the overall Austrian football league system. The club's initial mission was to represent the culture of the Nagorno-Karabakh region through sport, before undergoing a complete rebranding to FC Mauerwerk in 2018 to reflect its new commercial ownership.
In its inaugural 2014–15 season, Karabakh Wien competed in the Oberliga A Wien. The club finished the season in second place out of 14 teams, securing 55 points with a record of 17 wins, 2 draws, and 7 defeats from 26 matches. Despite the strong performance, they finished behind champions Wiener SC II and initially missed out on automatic promotion to the 2. Landesliga Wien.
To accelerate their ascent through the league system, the club's management orchestrated a merger with SC Kaiserebersdorf-Srbija at the end of the season. This strategic move allowed the club to secure a spot in the higher tier for the 2015–16 season by taking over Kaiserebersdorf's license and moving their operations to that district.
During the same season, the club also competed in the Wien Cup, where they achieved five consecutive victories before being eliminated. The club's rapid professionalization and early results were noted by local sports analysts as an unusual success for a newly established side.
Following its acquisition of SC Kaiserebersdorf-Srbija, the club competed in the 2. Landesliga Wien for the 2015–16 season. The 2. Landesliga is the second-highest league in the Vienna Football Association and the fifth tier of the Austrian football league system. The club's board of directors set an ambitious goal of winning the championship in their debut season in the division. Karabakh Wien successfully secured the title, finishing with 67 points from 21 wins, 4 draws, and 5 defeats, four points ahead of their nearest rivals in the 16-team league.
Parallel to their league success, the club achieved a historic run in the Wien Cup (Wiener Cup), a competition featuring nearly 300 clubs from the Vienna region. Karabakh Wien reached the final, where they defeated SV Gersthof 2–0 at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, the home of the Austria national football team.
With this victory, Karabakh Wien became the first club in the history of the 2. Landesliga Wien to win both the league title and the city cup in the same season. Additionally, the club's youth setup saw success as the U18 team secured a regional championship, resulting in a "treble" of trophies for the organization during the 2015–16 campaign.
For the 2016–17 season, Karabakh Wien competed in the Wiener Stadtliga, the highest division in Vienna and the fourth tier of the Austrian football league system. Following their back-to-back promotions, local sports analysts identified the club as a primary contender for the championship title. The club finished the season as champions of the Wiener Stadtliga, securing 71 points from 30 matches with 22 wins, 5 draws, and 3 defeats, earning direct promotion to the third-tier Regionalliga Ost.
On 8 July 2016, Karabakh Wien participated in a high-profile fixture against SK Rapid Wien in the first round of the 2016–17 Austrian Cup. Despite the significant gap in budget and league standing, Karabakh provided a competitive performance in front of 3,500 spectators at the Sportclub-Platz. The match ended in a 3–1 victory for Rapid Wien, with Karabakh scoring a late goal in the 90th minute.
During the first half of the season, the club set a new league record by remaining undefeated for 15 consecutive matches, a feat that highlighted the club's rapid ascent within Austrian football.
Following their promotion as champions of the Wiener Stadtliga, the club competed in the third-tier Regionalliga Ost for the first time. In September 2017, the club's football department was officially spun off into a separate legal entity, FC Karabakh Wien GmbH, to meet professional standards.
A significant change occurred in February 2018 when the club moved its home matches from Vienna to the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion in Schwechat, a stadium with a capacity of 7,000 spectators. In their debut Regionalliga season, the team performed strongly, finishing in 5th place. At the conclusion of the season in June 2018, the club was acquired by Mustafa Elnimr and subsequently rebranded as **FC Mauerwerk**.
On 29 June 2018, it was officially announced that the club's Azerbaijani ownership, led by Orkhan Valiyev, had stepped down following the team's unsuccessful bid for promotion to the reformed 2. Liga. The club was subsequently acquired by Egyptian-Austrian businessman Mustafa Elnimr, the owner of the Mauerwerk Group.
Elnimr, who was already a major sponsor of the Wiener Stadtliga club Mauerwerk Sport Admira (formerly SC Admira Dornbach), opted not to merge the two organizations. Instead, Karabakh Wien was rebranded as FC Mauerwerk, while Mauerwerk Sport began operating as a satellite club designed to develop young talent for the primary team. This structural model was intended to mirror the relationship between FC Red Bull Salzburg and FC Liefering, supporting Elnimr's continued ambition to achieve promotion to the professional Austrian second tier.
Under the new branding, the club retained its place in the Regionalliga Ost and continued to play its home matches at the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion in Schwechat.
In the 2014–15 season, Karabakh Wien has scored 55 points at the end of the season with 17 wins, 2 draws and 7 defeats from 26 games in Vienna at Oberliga A Wien and finished second behind Wiener SC II in a total of 14 clubs, and with that result did not get access to the 2. Landesliga Wien, so the club decided to buy the SC Kaiserebersdorf-Srbija to secure a place in the top league, moved to Kaiserebersdorf, and played the season 2015–16 in 2. Landesliga Wien. In the same season, the club took part in the Wien Cup and scored 5 consecutive victories. The results obtained for a newly established club have been highly appreciated by local experts.
It started in the 2. Landesliga Wien, which is a major league than the 2014–15 season. The 2. Landesliga Wien is officially the 2nd league of the Wien Football Association, and the 5th league of the Austrian Football Association. Despite the fact that the board of directors played for the first time in this league before the main team, the main goal was simply a championship. Thus, Karabakh Wien won 30 wins in 2. Landesliga Wien, gaining 67 points as a result of 21 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats and champions the 4 points ahead of the closest spectator in the league where 16 teams fought.
In the same season, the club has achieved great success, as well as parallel to the Wien Cup. In the Wien Cup, where 289 clubs from the Wien Football Association participated, our club rose to the finals and became the champion, winning a 2–0 win over the other finalist SV Gersthof at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, where the Austria national football team played home matches. Karabakh Wien has been the club for the first time in the history of 2. Landesliga Wien, winning the league and city trophy for the same season. The club has brought the U18 team to the third round of the season. So, in 2015–16, the Karabakh Wien played a historic season by printing 3 championships to Wien's asset.
In the 2016–17 season Karabakh Wien will start fighting in the highest city league in the city of Vienna. The Wiener Stadtliga is the 1st League of the Vienna Football Association and the 4th League of Austrian Football Association, where the club will be fighting this season. The club, which is seriously preparing for the season, will first be in the match on August 19, 2016. Karabakh Wien, which will hold 30 matches in 16 stadiums throughout the stadium, will be featured by local experts as the main nominees for the championship title.
During the 2016–17 season Karabakh Wien met with the Austrian club Rapid Wien, July 8, 2016, the first time Rapid won the Austrian Cup as the state champion of Wien and the 8th of July, 2016. In spite of the history, budget, or power ratio between the two clubs, Karabakh Wien suffered a surprisingly fierce battle with the local community in Vienna and lost 3–1 to Rapid Wien.
As master of the league of the viennese city, a rose in the regional league. Since September 2017, the football department has been transferred to FC Karabakh Wien GmbH. Since February 2018 leading the first team to play their home games at the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion in Schwechat from.
On 29 June 2018, it was announced that the previous Azerbaijani donors Orkhan Valiyev after the missed promotion to the new 2nd league and the club is taken over by the native Egyptian Mustafa Elnimr. Elnimr, who is already a sponsor of the Wiener Stadtliga club Mauerwerk Sport Admira, will not merge the two clubs but will continue Karabakh Wien as FC Mauerwerk. Masonry Sport will act as a satellite club of the FC Mauerwerk and introduce talents to the first team, because the club's goal is still the promotion to the 2. Liga.
