The UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) basketball team, known as the Retrievers, is a competitive NCAA Division I program representing UMBC in Baltimore, Maryland. Established in 1966, the team has gained recognition for its strong defense, disciplined play, and commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. UMBC competes in the America East Conference and has made notable appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a historic upset in 2018 when they became the first No. 16 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed, Virginia. The Retrievers are known for their passionate fan base, dedicated coaching staff, and a program focused on fostering growth, teamwork, and excellence in college basketball.
